As Christians, we are always asking God for “His will to be done.” That’s great! It’s biblical and Jesus prayed it. How often, though, do we not realize that we have to do the thing? Or we are the ones that have to physically make the decision? How often do we ask God, “God, just tell me what to do next!” God does tell us some things in our lives that would be best for us, but it is up to us to make the decision to actually do the thing.
God will never force us to do anything. He gave us free will and a brain for a reason. If there are lies that we are believing about ourselves, God will help us realize them and tell us what the truth is, but He isn’t going to force you or magically make you believe them. No matter how many people pray over you, no matter how many sermons you hear, no matter how many times you listen to “Good, Good Father” on repeat, the decision will still fall on you to believe the truth about yourself.
If you ever find yourself using the excuse of waiting on God to tell you your “calling”, perhaps he’s given you the resources and abilities to figure that out. Perhaps he has given you passions and desires for certain things that He’s waiting on you to grab ahold of.
Don’t get me wrong about this. It’s wise and biblical to consult God about all things in your life, listen for His voice, and to have that relationship with Him. I’m not saying we are all on our own for our lives because of the free will God gave us. I’m saying that God will never override our free will and force us to do or believe anything.
